While staying at the gorgeous quaint The Manor Hotel, New Delhi, I walked into what I found to be one of the cosiest and chicest spas Zehen. Rows of blue apothecary style bottles that unmistakably have to be NEAL'S YARD REMEDIES. A company that believes in community welfare and eco-conscious manufacturing and selling practices.
The blue pigment reduces the light reaching the contents, helping to protect the delicate natural fragrances and herbal properties, that allows NYR skincare products to be made with few, if any, preservatives. These recycled bottles also do not contain phthalates or bisphenol-A, a non-bio-degradable material, toxic material. As the company ethics go -"Making sure the blue bottle stay green"
"We believe that our mission to enhance and protect people's health and wellbeing starts at the planting of the very first seed, long before our ingredients even arrive at our eco-factory."
1981 Romy Fraser opens the first Neal’s Yard Apothecary store.
1983 A classic is born: the iconic Frankincense & Myrrh Skin Cream (later Frankincense Nourishing Cream), is still a favourite today. Romy Fraser opens the first Neal’s Yard Apothecary store.
1987 Store in academic Oxford is opened.
1990 By the seaside: store in Brighton opens.
The biggest highlight of this brand in my opinion is the story behind the ingredients they source from across several continents and regions.
Here are some of the ingredients that feature in some of their top selling products and their socio-economic impact.
Organic Argan Oil - Boosting independence in Morocco, being one of the rarest and most expensive oils in the world, argan oil is an incredible beauty, skin, hair and nail saviour. Sourced from Morocco, it is fairly traded and helps the women Tighamimine Women’s Cooperative.
Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil - Sourced from Nanyuki, Kenya farming project supports over 500 families with a steady income.
Organic Rose Essential Oil - Farmed in Kerman Province, Iran helps raise money for the families to build schools for children.
So how does a brand that is socially-responsible, uses highest quality ingredients sourced right at the source, 'thinks local and acts global', and is free from silicones, paragons, GMs, EDTAs and other nasties sound?
Do I hear a resounding - "perfect"??
