An enviable high tea spread, with rich floral teas and vanilla cakes, nougat, macarons, scones, creamed tarts…
Top Note: Lemon, Aquatic Notes, Heart Note: Turkish Honey, Base Note: Cedarwood, Vanilla, White Musk
I will immediately go into the the heavy crystal glass flacon from Mancera which is custom made by Italian manufacturer Luigi Bormioli, whose style and artwork have a long history that dates back to the Renaissance.
Not only does the bottle make a statement, the fragrance hits home run right from the start. The thing about Mancera fragrances is that they differ from typical oriental fragrances on the market. What they offer are highly concentrated perfumes with predominantly western appeal that stay true to the oriental character and boast of a strong aura.
Roses Vanille is pure temptation in a bottle! Smooth as they come, the scent exudes abundance and seduction. Heavily creamed vanilla and a very sheer and fresh rose makes the heart of this fragrance. On my skin lush roses and vanilla just radiate and I am embalmed in this heavenly aroma.
Though niche fragrances are usually unisex since they are not intended to be defined by gender of the end user but are rather created to form association and relive experiences, Roses Vanille smells very feminine to me.
Wear it…as the perfect day scent for a beautiful spring-time occasion.
Beautiful spices that just cut through the aromatic florals, a smoky potpourri of heavenly aromas…
Top notes are rose and caraway; middle notes are rose, vetiver and cedar; base notes are musk, guaiac wood, olibanum, labdanum and agarwood (oud).
What makes Rose 31 by Le Labo so special, well to begin with its highest quality ingredients, for example the rose petals featured in this scent are plucked by hand in Grasse, and this really shows through in the way the scent envelopes you in its richness.
The rose in Rose 31 is intense, dark and dried with regards to my initial reference to pot pourri. My Indian heritage makes me automatically drawn to spices that are strong and highly aromatic. Upon the first spray I instantly get ample cumin, it adds a lovely complexity which is unlike the usual peppery accord which is commonly seen in many woody-spicy scents. However even with all the spice and a slight sweaty facet in the background, in no way did this scent behave masculine on my skin. What I got was a deep rose, honeyed- ambery sweetness and cool notes of vetiver along with ample woody facets.
This scent is really rich and layered and with each sniff I get a beautiful new accord that makes its way to centre-stage. Even though the notes don’t state it but my body chemistry brings out a certain citrusy freshness in this scent.
This in my opinion is one of the more perfect unisex scents that really do transcend beautifully through the seasons….this is the type of scent you’d want your home to be constantly smelling of, as you wear it, your husband wears it...hell, let your dog wear it too!
Wear it….all the time, it awakens you instantly! An all season, all weather unisex star!
Smoking pipes, golden dark rum glistening in fine glassware, the clink of iced rocks against the glass walls, a room filled with histories and stories of travels far and wide, and the only aroma that fills the space between the walls is intense and smoky and balsamic and rich.
Clementine, Bergamot, Cardamom, rose, Castoreum, orris root, Vetiver, patchouli, Virginia cedar, resin, myrrh, incense
Incense Rosé 06 according to me is the quintessential male scent, though I am not sure whether Tauer intended for it to be so starkly masculine, considering that its been marked as a unisex scent. Though I do not picture myself wearing it or can imagine the type of woman that can pull off this extreme scent.
This is not a preppy one and neither is it aged or antiquated, it is fresh and sweet, heavily intoxicating owing to its boozy profile, it’s a bitter citrus laced with smokiness that’s both rustic and distinguished at the same time.
I have found that when a male scent appeals to me, I am able to articulate it with a lot of fervor and emotion…and Andy Tauer’s 06 is making my imagination and words flow.
The opinions may be divided on this but I love the medicinal vibe thanks to a sharp citrus opening, heavy with cardamom accords that lend a richness to the scent. There are some wonderful animalic accords from Castoreum and the rose is very smoky in Incense Rosé. The interplay of resinous sweet accords mixed with a spiciness creates a complex harmony.
Gift it to your man….and hope that he wears it well, because if he does then you are in for a wonderful treat.
Picture this….a rose garden, with joyous fountains and glistening ponds and tiny branches laden with bouquets of pink petal-ed beauties, that create a fragrant aroma that fills the air hypnotising all who fall in its wake.
Lithci, peony, Hawthron, rose, violet, virginia cedar, vetiver
Rose de Siwa is a woody-floral scent for “moments doux” (soft moments). Named after the flowers of the Siwa Oasis in Egypt, a traveler's dream of a paradise in the midst of a hot desert…
Though I have to add that the name belies the scent slightly as I do not get a warmth in the profile that is evocative of the idea of a ‘desert rose’, something so soft and delicate standing amidst a vast sea of hot sand braving the unforgiving sun. Rather, it plays up the aspect of the ultimate fantasy, a pristine dream-like floral wonderland abundant with fountains and ponds and flowers, and beautiful women all blissfully ignorant and untouched by the treacherous long desert roads.
Perhaps Francis Kurkdjian intended to highlight this juxtaposition and chose to interpret Rose De Siwa, as something unharmed and virginal.
The scent has a barely there quality that I like perhaps something I would wear o bed, it remains close to skin and linear on my skin, I get lots and lots o peony and violet with a fresh rose and just a hint of litchi.
Wear it…like I said to bed, for a blissful sleep.
She's a rose with thorns, don't mess with her.
She's a girl who goes to extremes.
When she can, she soothes; and when she wants ... !
Her fragrance lifts you higher, she rocks and shocks.
First dab…of the sample I received in mail….an intense cloud of intoxicating rose that envelopes you in its velvety-syrupy aroma, so sweet yet so clean and pure almost as if you have been pushed into a well filled with rose petals and are now settled within the deep depths of this cool densely fragrant space….
10 minutes in…it takes a surprising turn, as I pick up on cool slightly metallic facets possibly of the violet, and the scent shows certain powderiness giving it a boudoir feel…
15 minutes in a sweet accord starts to show and gets more intense as the scent stays put on the skin, clinging to it like a velvet glove…the pepper is not apparent on my skin but almost half an hour in the scent now takes the form of something slightly dark yet something slightly somber….i sense soft woody facets that remind me of a smooth sandal accord that only compliments the beautiful rose that now lingers safely in the background….
What I love…the rich wine hue of the juice that creates a visual imagery of deep maroon roses being squeezed to collect the fresh nectar straight into the bottle….I also love how its name conjures cinematic references of a black and white time, the ladies of Moulin rouge, or the opera or the Broadway
I find this fragrance would appeal to a more mature audience.

What happens when you marry street art and high-end luxury - Pure Magic!
American #graffiti artist @johnperello signed off limited edition bee bottles are the latest catch the fancy of perfume enthusiasts world over...I have always appreciated juxtapositions and contrasts in art and design as in my opinions it adds depth and character and poetry and imperfection which makes it incredibly interesting! Guerlain which always fashions a classically conservative yet elegant aesthetic, though never short of surprising, has departed significantly from their usual presentation with this one and it's just pure magic!
Watch the magic come to life at the hands of this infinitely talented artist....
A floral gourmand that gained massive commercial success in 2012 which continues till today, a scent that transitions easily from a cold winter afternoon to a warm summer evening...more coming up on this feminine wonder we shot today...All images shot on my#canonEOS600D, setup and styling by Tender Loving Nose
Perfumers Olivier Polge, Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo came together to create this luscious blend...it boasts of nectarous top notes of pear and black current, a luminous floral heart that's elegant, aromatic though slightly unsurprising but intoxicating nonetheless...this scent brings out softness of its earthy base notes and an understated chill offered by Iris...
A luminous floral heart trails to a mellow soft yet surprisingly earthy dry down that's enriched with a creamy gourmand vibe...vanilla, praline, tonka bean all create this cloud of fragrant goodness while patchouli adds a lingering sweetness while Iris gives a slight chill that's noticeable after a few hours on my skin....

Mornings are the perfect time to sniff a scent if you are testing it on a strip or cloth like silk/satin.
This is because our senses are most heightened and the smell receptors most active in the first half of the day.
However, later half of the day is actually better to test perfumes directly on your skin owing to the fact that skin secretes body's natural oils which create an olfactive alchemy with the scent sprayed thereby creating one's individual scent profile as well as individual performance in terms of longevity, silage and so on.
Don't commit to a scent because the sales exec said so!
Or because they're offering a pretty pink make-up bag free!
Remember knowledge is POWER! and only when you know what works for YOU is when you must commit to buying that beautiful scent.
DID YOU KNOW....there are over 12 different fragrance typologies classified into 4 broad families - floral, oriental, woody and fresh.
There are hundreds of combinations that exist that blend ingredients from various families to create unique scent profiles in each fragrance. Though as a consumer you need not memorise each and every olfactive categorisation, you just need to know the families you wear well.
MY TIP...Try out fragrance from only one particular family on one trip to the store so you may understand the chemistry your skin creates with that fragrance family, as well as which scents you love within that family.
Niche scents are not meant only for the self confessed fragrance snobs/fanatics (me)!
What are niche scents you might ask?
Its a term occasionally thrown around in perfume banter....these are the scents you might likely find at a perfume specialist or high-end fragrance boutique.
Do not be afraid to try scents that are not "designer" or "mainstream" because afterall who does not want to smell unique and unlike anyone else.
Shop for fragrances like you shop for clothes!
In certain cultures Perfumes are as much a part of the culture as food and wine and clothing.
